We're excited to introduce our revised approach to working with datasets in this release, alongside the introduction of dependency variants and QR code templates.

Dataset manager with new configuration of dependencies


Note: Permission to edit a Dataset manager is reserved for Admin, Project manager, and Editor roles. If you are assigned a Contributor role, you'll have view-only access.


In continuation with our recent updates, we're excited to introduce our new unified approach to managing datasets and dependencies, providing you with a consistent user experience regardless of the number of options or complexity of your dependencies. 



This update brings substantial infrastructural changes:

 

Datasets as independent entities

If before datasets were created as part of select fields, Datasets now exist as a standalone entity. They are created and managed separately and can later be added to select fields when needed. All datasets can be viewed and managed from the Datasets page.

Centralized dataset management - Dataset manager

Configuration and management of datasets are now centralized within a dedicated Dataset Manager. You can use it for all dataset-related operations, including dataset options and dependencies. 

 

This also means that any changes made within the Dataset manager directly impact all its instances of the dataset across multiple fields. This ensures consistency and streamlines the management process.

Integration of dependencies 

Dependencies are now also an integral part of datasets. Thanks to a simplified and more intuitive user interface, you can now configure dependencies within the Dataset manager with ease.

 

Manager and Admin users then have the flexibility to include or exclude dependencies after adding a dataset to a field.

Having a unified way of managing datasets, also paved the way for Dependency variants (See section here below).



Creating multiple dependencies with Dependency variants

Dependency variants allow you to create multiple sets of dependencies within a dataset, providing the flexibility to tailor different dependency configurations to your needs in diverse scenarios. 



Previously, you were limited to configuring only one set of dependency relations. Now, with dependency variants, you can define multiple variations. For example, for a Dataset C: 


  • Variant 1: Dataset C depends on Dataset A.
  • Variant 2: Dataset C depends on Dataset B.
  • Variant 3: Dataset C depends on Datasets A and B.


Managed through the Dataset manager, each dataset inherently includes one dependency variant. However, you need to configure it before you can add new variants.

Once configured, the ‘Add variant’ button next to the 'Dependency variant' tab becomes active, allowing you to create a new variation of your dependencies.

Pre-defining styling settings for QR codes with templates

With QR code templates, you now can pre-define styling settings for QR codes. This allows you to customize QR codes while also ensuring consistent branding. 



Creating QR code templates is simple:


Click ‘Settings’ under the ‘Setup’ section > ‘QR code templates’ > ‘Create template’

 

This will open an editor to let you name the template, add a PNG image, and set colors. 


Once saved, templates are readily available for use. When users generate QR codes, they can choose whether to apply a QR code template or not. If a template is selected, the predefined image and color settings are automatically applied. Users can then finalize the configuration by adjusting redundancy levels and setting image formats.
